Aesthetic Medicine: Redefining Your Beauty Journey

MICRONEEDLING & Dermapen®

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that involves the controlled, superficial puncturing of the skin. It is a well-tolerated, affordable, safe and effective skin rejuvenation treatment that lasts about 20-30 minutes.

Microneedling is also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) as the micropunctures created, cause a controlled skin injury that activates the wound healing cascade releasing various important growth factors needed for the formation of collagen (neocollagenesis) and elastin. It also causes new blood vessels formation (neovascularisation) needed to nourish the cells and structural components of the dermis. Studies have shown that after only 6 months of treatment (1 sessions per month) a 400% increased collagen and elastin formation was noted.

This procedure can also be used as a transdermal delivery system creating microchannels that allows active ingredients to cross the skin barrier and get directly placed into the dermis. Not only does microneedling assist with collagen formation, but can be used to improve facial scars, decrease pigmentation and improve acne.

The procedure is performed under topical anaesthesia and minimal downtime is expected (Slight redness and swelling that may last 2–3 days) and daily activities can be resumed the following day. To achieve desired effects, several sessions are needed (performed at 2–8-week intervals). As collagen formation takes about 6 weeks, results cannot be viewed immediately.
